When did you get into CrossFit?

September of 2013.

Why did you start?

I got bored of my routine at Gold's gym and wanted something different.

What do you love about coaching?

I love helping people and seeing their progress.  I love encouraging and pushing our members and showing them they are capable of more than they think.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

The beauty of CrossFit is that there is always something to work towards - once you get better at a weakness, other things come up that you'll need to work on.  It's a never-ending process and I love it.  Aside from the fitness aspect of CrossFit, the community is what makes it easy to come to the gym every day.  I'm truly grateful for the relationships I've made because of CrossFit.

I started Crossfit in 2007 when Kevin Kwan introduced me to the workout "Fight Gone Bad".  I was totally hooked.  I immediately switched to only CrossFit workouts and noticed huge results in a short time compared to my regular bodybuilding style workouts.  It was clear, however, that a regular gym was not setup for doing the CrossFit workouts that we wanted.

Kevin and I trained together and started coaching each other on the movements and/or seeking outside coaching advice.  Both Kevin and I signed up to compete in the 2008 CrossFit Games in Aromas, California.  We became part of the "CrossFit Community" and absolutely loved every part of it.

One evening, Kevin and I had the idea that we should start our own affiliate and start coaching CrossFit Classes.  We rented some space at a 'globo-gym' and started coaching classes in the evenings, which quickly reached capacity.  The next step was for us to lease our first space in Canyon Meadows.

The rest is history.

When did you get into CrossFit?

I got into CrossFit in 2009

Why did you start?

When I stopped ski racing I didn't enjoy the regular 'globo gym' set-up or style of training. I wanted something different where I could challenge myself and learn new things.

Why do you love coaching?

It's exciting to see people challenge themselves and push their bodies in a way that they didn't think was possible. And then they get up, and do it all over again and again.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

Crossfit still allows me to become fitter each year as I become older (LOL) and allows me to be healthy and do all the activities I still enjoy at a relatively high level. I am still amazed that this stuff works ! And you can get jack AF ;).  Plus, it helps you not suck at life.

Why did you get into CrossFit?

I was looking for a change to my regular routine.

Why do you love coaching?

I love using my experience as a coach and a competitor to help athletes learn new skills and achieve their best.  I am passionate about fitness and love helping others reach their goals.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

I immediately fell in love with the culture and camaraderie… this is something I haven’t found anywhere else.

What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?

I love yoga, running, hiking, spending time with my girls and dog, and tacos and tequila - LOL!

When did you start CrossFit?

In 2014, about 8 months after I had my 4th baby :)

Why did you start?

My husband and 2 older daughters loved it. I also had a friend who, coincidentally, started a specialized program at Athlete Inside and was excited to try CrossFit classes. That’s when I thought I should give it a try.

Why do you love coaching?

I love how much I’ve learned from coaching. But what I love the most is watching someone get their 'AH HAAA' moment.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

There’s always something to work on and improve on!  It’s also what I hate the most about CrossFit... LOL!

What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?

Spending time with the family and baking. I also really enjoy wing and taco nights.

When did you get into CrossFit?

September of 2014.

Why did you start?

I had always worked out at regular gyms but just wasn't seeing any results.  Plus I was bored.  My brother (and currently my coach)  suggested I try CrossFit. I have never looked back.

Why do you love coaching?

I love helping people achieve their 'impossible'.  Breaking movements down into manageable steps and seeing people put in the work to break down their barriers is incredibly rewarding.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

Where do I begin?! Lol! First and foremost, the community of people is something I have NEVER experienced anywhere else.  I have made lifelong friends through CrossFit.  Also, the results!! My body changed SO much when I started CrossFItting.  I got leaner and stronger and started being able to do things I NEVER thought possible.

When did you start CrossFit?

In 2013... how time flies!

Why did you start?

My husband made me do it! But seriously, I have always been active, but was getting a little bored of the 'globo gym' scene. So I tried CrossFit and was hooked immediately. I love how it is constantly challenging me in so many ways. No day ever feels the same. I am stronger and fitter then I have even been!

Why do you love coaching?

I love helping people reach their goals. It is always fun to help people who want to better themselves. Coaching people also keeps me on my toes. I am always learning because there is no one shoe fits all when it comes to coaching large groups.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

CrossFit keeps things fun because it is always different. And there are so many new skills to learn!! But I think the biggest thing that keeps me going is the community. I have met some incredible people at this gym and made some amazing friends.

When did you start CrossFit?

I started Crossfit in 2015 when I started my education degree in Edmonton.

Why did you start?

I was getting really tired doing bicep curls and sit-ups, but never having a 6 pack. I still don’t have a 6 pack but I’m glad I started Crossfit! I was also looking for something to fill my competitive void since I was done with my hockey career.

Why do you love coaching?

Coaching has always been a passion of mine. I love seeing athletes make progress and achieve their goals. Helping someone get their first pull up, toes to bar, etc. and seeing how excited they are is so rewarding.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

The best thing about Crossfit is that there is always something to improve on. The work is never done and I’ve definitely fallen in love with the grind that comes with being in the gym everyday. The community of Crossfit is what makes it so special, nothing beats a Friday afternoon workout with your friends and a couple post WOD parking lot beers!

When did you start CrossFit?

I got into crossfit about 5 years ago. Starting in Oct or Nov 2015

Why did you start?

CrossFit started for me based on the regular sibling rivalry. My brother started Crossfit a year or so before me, after working out together back at home (saskatoon) I realized how beneficial Crossfit style training was and I came in for a trial at AI shortly after.

Why do you love coaching?

There are a lot of things I really enjoy about coaching, one of the biggest things would be teaching/finessing movements and techniques with members, whether it be lifting or gymnastics. There are a lot of different coaching cues for each movement, trying to find the cues that an individual best resonates with can be tricky, but worthwhile.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

What makes Crossfit different for me is the variance. Many sports you will focus on a few aspects of fitness, which makes it more attainable to be proficient at that sport. With Crossfit there is such a wide variety of movements to master. It makes it very difficult to perform well in all areas. You are constantly training to better yourself in variety, if you decide to skip or not train a certain type of movement because you don’t like it the weakness will show in one of the many workouts in crossfit. Training the variety of movements means most people will always be looking to improve in some aspect, no one can be the best at everything.

When did you start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in early 2010 at CrossFit Cayman. I was playing rugby for the Cayman Islands National Team and was definitely not as fit as I wanted to be, so our coach had us do a 6am class. It was so rewarding, and hard, and competitive and I loved it!

What do you love about CrossFit?

There are so many variables to improvement: intensity, quality of movement, speed....you can literally spends years improving yourself and I have been trying for years to get better at all of it. I love being surrounded by hard-working, like-minded people. I love that I can feel terrible and still walk in to the gym and start smiling. I love that it challenges me to be better in so many ways in my life, not just fitness. I love that my family is so much healthier because of CrossFit. I could go on and on!

What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?

Right now I don’t do much outside of CrossFit, haha! But I love to travel, go to the beach, be outside (when its warm, I hate being cold!) and spend quality time with my family:)

I love seeing people improve! There is something truly rewarding watching someone's first pull up, double under, muscle up etc!

When did you start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in 2004

Why did you start?

I needed to get prepared for a physical test to work on a speciality team as a paramedic

Why do you love coaching?

I love coaching to see a-ha moments, and the improvements seen in athletes as they improve over time.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

CrossFit is a methodology I like more than others for several reasons. One is the community. This is something not found in many other places, let alone in gyms. The diversity of movements is challenging and fun. One more is the building of mental fortitude and realizing we can trust our bodies, they are not fragile, and let’s see how we can challenge ourselves.

When did you start CrossFit?

I started in 2014 - although I didn’t know I was doing CrossFit.  I had a personal trainer who called it functional and metabolic training.

Why did you start?

I really enjoyed it, and the results.  I had more energy, I could think clearly and my overall outlook improved.  I had to buy a new wardrobe because none of my cloths fit - a good and bad result.

Why do you love coaching?

I didn’t know I would love coaching - I had no ambition to coach until few months ago.  I know it sounds cliche, but CF has been very good to me and my health.  Honestly, helping others find benefits like the ones I have gained is a huge rush.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

No other form of sport or exercise has helped me get in shape like CF has.  I love the variety, the scalability and the personal challenges it offers. I think these features are unique to CF.

What makes Crossfit different, for you, than other kinds of fitness?

Outside the gym, I hang out with my wife.  We cook and garden and travel.  I love to golf (especially with my two sons) and watch them play hockey.  Life outside the gym is pretty simple - it’s perfect.
